Oh, how the big boys make our hearts go pitter-pat! They’re the perfect size to hug and their cuddling skills are top notch. (It’s slightly less pleasant when they step on your bladder, but it’s a flaw we’re willing to overlook.) If you share our soft spot for the jumbo-sized Frenchies, then do we have the dog for you—Busti, who is 35 pounds of snuffly, snorty love. He’s on the hunt for the perfect forever home—maybe it’s yours!

Busti (say “BUST-eye”) was tearfully surrendered to FBRN because his owners could not afford the cost of his veterinary treatment. Busti had suffered from chronic, painful ear infections along with terribly itchy skin, and our initial thought was that he would need major surgery (total ear canal ablation) on one or both of his beautiful bat ears. Fortunately, this was not the case, and it turned out that allergies were to blame for much of what ailed poor Busti. Allergy testing revealed that Busti is allergic to a number of ingredients commonly found in dog food, as well as human dander. Yes, you read that right—Busti is technically allergic to people. But he wouldn’t do well as the Dog in the Plastic Bubble—Busti loves his people far too much to be denied human contact (and the feeling is mutual!) Instead, foster mom reduces his exposure to human dander by giving Busti his own special blankets and not letting him sleep on the people bed. Which might be for the better—at his size, Busti might accidentally push you right off the side and onto the bedroom floor. (Don't laugh. It has happened.)

Personality-wise, Busti is a cool customer (especially when he’s hogging the AC, as he’s wont to do on hot summer days). He doesn’t bark at strangers, he ignores the birds at the window, and he’s unfazed by things that go bump in the night. He’s most content when enjoying a bone or an antler in close proximity to his family. But don’t let his mellow attitude fool you—at 8 years old, Busti still has plenty of energy. He loves going for walks and playing chase in the backyard, and when his canine foster siblings get up to something, Busti is right there to tag along!

To that end, Busti would love a home with a doggie playmate. He’s a relatively submissive dog and is happy to go with the flow, so he would do very well with another friendly dog of about his size. Kids and cats? Busti says “sure!” He’s never met a person (or animal!) he hasn’t liked.

Busti isn’t fussy about the type of home he’d like, but it should have a fenced yard so he can play tag to his heart’s content. Since he absolutely adores his people, he’d love to have a stay-at-home parent; however, since he is crate-trained and non-destructive when left alone, he’d be fine hanging around the house with a doggie buddy and a bone while you work your 9 to 5 (with a midday potty break, of course). He’d also love to accompany his person to work, where he would charm every member of the office with his impressive jowls and majestic bat ears.

Health-wise, Busti is doing a million times better than when he made his FBRN debut. However, he remains prone to ear infections, and his new family must have adequate resources (meaning time, money, and a good veterinarian) to ensure that Busti receives immediate treatment should he show signs that something is wrong with his ears. Busti’s new family should also be aware that he has some nerve paralysis on the left side of his face, which causes droopy lip, muscle loss and a slight head tilt. This condition doesn’t seem to bother Busti any, and we think he’s perfect just the way he is! Finally, it should be noted that Busti is occasionally possessive with his toys, but he surrenders them when given a treat in exchange. Good boy, Busti!

Busti’s foster mom is (rightfully) enamored with her charge, and says:
“Busti is named after a town in Chautauqua County in Western New York. He has adapted very easily into our lifestyle and adjusted excellently to our three dogs. He moves like he has all the time in the world, except he will run like flint if he is in the backyard playing. Storms don’t bother him and thunder is no big deal. He doesn’t play the in-and-out game of wanting in and out all the time—he just sits at the door and waits. I have only heard him bark once! He never begs for food and is great about going out in a rainstorm to go potty. My very favorite part is he will just lie in front of the AC vent when he is warm. He is the only dog we have ever had that takes ownership of the AC system.”
