“Ron is a big lover at heart. He has not had the best start to life and just needs some real training and reassurance on how to act appropriately.”

**Ron Swanson has a bite history.**

Holy smokes. Guess who’s gone available? It’s FBRN’s own Ron Swanson! This young heartthrob came to us after a Good Samaritan rescued him from his original owner, who was neglecting his physical and developmental needs. Once rescued, an inability to peacefully coexist with other dogs in two subsequent homes eventually – and fortunately! – led to his appearance on FBRN’s doorstep. Ron has been learning the ropes of good canine citizenship from his FBRN foster humans ever since.

Because of his rocky start, Ron Swanson is still very much a work in progress. He will need a committed, dog-experienced adopter who understands his needs and is willing to continue training and provide consistent guidance to ensure Ron matures into a well-mannered, well-adjusted grown-up frog.

As we mentioned, Ron has run into trouble in the past with other dogs in his foster homes. Unless another dog is completely submissive, Ron tends to scuffle with them for dominance. It was one of these confrontations (before Ron came to FBRN) that resulted in a bite to one of the humans in his foster home. FBRN thinks the bite was probably accidental (the foster parent was trying to separate Ron from another dog). However, because of this bite incident, we are marking his bio with a banner and will be reviewing applicants with an even higher level of scrutiny than usual -- and our usual scrutiny level is quite high to begin with.

Obviously, we are looking for a very particular home for this guy. While there is a chance that Ron could accept living with a submissive dog, the potential for unforeseen issues to develop is too great. We want to take every measure to ensure that Ron is successful in his adoptive home, and won’t gamble with his well-being by taking a chance that good dog chemistry will develop – which it very well might not. For this reason, Ron will only be placed in a home with no other dogs.

Ron is untested with cats, so consistent with FBRN’s efforts to protect the feline members of society, applicant homes must be cat-free as well.

Any kids in the home should be 15+ and extremely dog-savvy. Ron is a resource-guarder (something his adoptive family needs to understand and continue to work on) and we want to make sure that kids in his new family know to steer clear of Ron when he’s eating, chewing on a tasty bone, etc.

Ron loves to roam around the yard, sniffing scents and enjoying life al fresco, so a securely fenced yard is a requirement.

For all of his issues with other animals, Ron is a people lover. He would love a home where humans are around during the day. He could make a good office dog because an office = the opportunity to meet people to love on him. If he does need to stay at home while his humans are away, toiling on his behalf, a midday break to take care of his dog business and stretch his legs is a must.

More good news – Ron Swanson, like his namesake in Pawnee, IN, is also very smart and extremely food-motivated. (Meat is a particular favorite.) This will certainly help his new family when they continue his training.

While it has been a lot of work getting to know Ron Swanson and help him learn what he needs to know to succeed, Ron’s foster dad knows this boy has the potential to be a fantastic dog in the right home with the right guidance and support. He told us this about Mr. Swanson: “Ron is a big lover at heart. He has not had the best start to life and just needs some real training and reassurance on how to act appropriately.”

Whew. We know this is a lot of information to consider, but we also know that FBRN has wonderful potential adopters, some of whom could offer the perfect home to Ron Swanson. If you think that might be you, click on the link above to submit an application for this handsome brindle fellow. And if you are chosen as Ron’s forever home, be prepared to transport yourself to the Paris of the Plains, the BBQ Capitol of the World, Kansas City, Missouri. See the sights, have yourself some barbecue (Ron Swanson would approve) and be prepared to road-trip your way home. At 25 pounds, Ron is perfectly-sized for many things, but flying isn't one of them.

FBRN dogs are in foster care in people's private homes. For the foster families' safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don't set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.

FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo. Except in rare or unusual cases, adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. In rare or unusual cases, FBRN may be able to assist in transporting a dog to a volunteer near the adopter's home, but the expense of transporting the dog must be the responsibility of the adopting party.
