"Rubble is a big, goofy, wrinkly, derp. He sort of marches to the beat of his own drum but he is lovable and mushy and just can't get or give enough love."

Sadly, Rubble is no longer adoptable. His seizures have worsened and he'll be remaining in the care of his foster family.

Those wrinkles… Those fat little feet… That side tongue… We couldn't have assembled a more scrumptious Frenchie if we had tried! This delectable nugget was surrendered back to us by his previous adopters when their changing circumstances didn't allow them to provide him with the stability and routine he needed. Now, Rubble is seeking a patient, permanent family who can give him the love, care and attention he so desperately needs and deserves.

Rubble is epileptic. He is currently taking three types of medication to keep his seizures in check (phenobarbital 60mg 2x/day, levitiracetam ER 500 mg 2x/day,  and potassium bromide 2ml just before bed.) He has had several seizures while in our care, but he has seen a neurologist in our care and this regimen appears to be the right fit as his seizures are less frequent as long as he gets his medication  consistently at the right times every day. When Rubble has a seizure, he may lose control of his bladder and/or bowels. If you have experience with dogs (or people) who have needed consistent medications and you've administered them successfully, tell us about it in your application!

Rubble is looking for a home that can provide him with a calm environment, with someone who is familiar with stubborn, emotional dogs and can be with him most of the day -- someone who can stay at home with him or take him to the office, ensuring that he gets his medicine at the correct times and can go out to potty every couple of hours.  He needs to be taken out to relieve himself every few hours during the day, and sometimes at night (possibly because of his medication). If he is caught short, he may piddle in the house but this is rare.  He rarely has a bowel movement indoors.  He would do best in a home with a fenced yard, primarily because he needs to wee every couple of hours, but also because he likes to run around outside and sunbathe.  In fact, we suspect that is how his fur has attained its perfect, toasty hue.  He has acquired what the vet calls “seasonal alopecia”, it is not an allergy nor a bacterial infection, it is just a patch of missing hair, it does not itch or flake and does not faze him in the least.  He enjoys leashed walks, but he does tend to pull.  He keeps his nose to the pavement, and will eat leaves, sticks, rocks-- pretty much anything--if given half a chance.  Rubble has another little quirk -- a fascination with cars.  He has to sniff and inspect every parked car he sees.

Rubble's history with cats is unknown, so there can be no kitties in his forever home, and he can be a bit of the jealous type with other dogs at whom he might lunge and nip, so being an only pet is ideal.  He will fight back if another dog is aggressive towards him, so care would need to be taken with him around other dogs.  Rubble needs someone who is patient, kind and consistent.

You may have noticed Rubble’s floppy tongue.  It’s possible that Rubble hadn’t had the best quality of life before coming to FBRN and his dental hygiene may have been somewhat lacking resulting in the extraction of a number of teeth, which is believed to be the reason for his protruding tongue.  He eats and drinks fine with it, he is just not much of a kisser, but he may give a friendly head butt from time to time.
He is quite the chowhound, and always has his nose to the floor, snarfing down anything he can get his paws on.  However, he is allergic to a number of foods, so care must be taken that he does not consume anything that will cause a flare-up.  This is one reason that we prefer that any children in the family be at least ten years old and bully dog savvy.  Little fingers are far more likely to drop tasty morsels on the floor or be nipped by a dog intent on snagging a forbidden treat.  Rubble shows no sign of food aggression whatsoever with his foster family.

Rubble must be kept on a strict Raw Protein diet and specific supplements that we found that work for him, and CBD oil.  The other rationale we have for insisting on older, dog-savvy children is that Rubble, though spending a lot of time catching up on his beauty sleep (glorious wrinkles like that don't just happen, you know), can get carried away during play and get mouthy or nippy and needs to be gently but firmly calmed.  He thinks nothing of giving fingers and toes a playful (but painful) pinch, and no one wants to see little kids develop a fear of dogs.

According to his foster mom, "Rubble is a big, goofy, wrinkly derp.  He sort of marches to the beat of his own drum but he is lovable and mushy and just can't get or give enough love."

At 28 lbs, Rubble will not fit under the seat in an airplane even if he is greased up with a large quantity of butter (which, just to be clear, we do not recommend), so his new family must be willing and able to drive and pick him up.

FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo. Except in rare or unusual cases, adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.

FBRN dogs are in foster care in people's private homes. For the foster families' safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don't set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
